And more body issues. (Hey, it's a big body.)

. . . continued . . . .
So we are not our bodies. How could we be? Our bodies are ugly things, and we are beautiful. So we divorce ourselves from them, focus only on our beautiful souls. What does it matter that I'm wearing thick glasses and I wear a size twenty-four? My soul is gorgeous. What do I need with a body?
Yeah. Well, try to eat chocolate without one, or look at the sky, or stand under a hot shower. Try to sing without a body, try to feel the wind blow through your hair with no body. What would our souls know of life without our bodies? Everything our souls know of this life, they learn through our bodies. What music moves our souls has to come in through the ears--even if the ears are too big, or stick out. The rhythms move our bodies as much as they move our souls.
We are our bodies, as much as we are our souls. We need to understand them, we need to love them. We can't love ourselves without them, and we can't love anyone else without them, either. We love with our bodies as much as with our minds. Our bodies are where the pleasure comes in.
The desire to be found beautiful feels so shallow, but it's such a strong biological need. Beauty = Love = Procreation. If you're beautiful, your line will continue (which is all nature cares about). We keep trying to transcend physical beauty, while at the same time we keep narrowing it to the point that its definition fits no one. Instead of divorcing our bodies when they don't fit, we need to redefine the perimeters of beauty.
And if I ever figure out how to do that, I'll be sure to write it down. Watch this space.
