Prohibition is an awful flop.
We like it.
It can't stop what it's meant to stop.
We like it.
It's left a trail of graft and slime,
It don't prohibit worth a dime,
It's filled our land with vice and crime.
Nevertheless, we're for it.

(I'm not sure that's the real title, because I haven't been able to find the book it's in, and I haven't checked any of my Bartlett's yet.)

Every speck of research done prior to prohibition established that it wasn't workable or effective. It pays to pay attention to the research. lol

The best thing about this poem--which I meant to mention and will edit in--is that it was written as a summary of a report on the effectiveness of prohabition. The report writers acknowledged how badly prohabition was failing, how it was making life worse--but they were still for it!

I find comfort in things like this, because it always things like things are getting worse when really, they're just staying the same.
