"Not that I care, but why are you sleeping on my sofa tonight?"
"Because Julie asked me to leave."
"Well, I know that, that goes without saying. What I was asking was why she had thrown you out this time." And before Wilson could protest, House amended, "Asked you to leave."
"I gave her a present."
House was silent for a moment. "Either that was one really sucky present or she's a lot more temperamental than you've been letting on."
"It was a diamond bracelet."
"You gave her a diamond bracelet and she threw you ou—asked you to leave?"
"I'd rather not talk about it."
"You don't seriously expect that to stop me from pestering you about until I get an answer, do you?"
Wilson sighed. "No, of course not. All right. I gave Julie an anniversary present."
"And she didn't like it?"
"I don't know. She kept the bracelet, so I'm guessing she liked that. What she didn't like was the timing."
"Today's not your anniversary."
"Well, it's not my anniversary with Julie. I would have sworn—" He stopped, shaking his head. "Now I'm not sure . . . ."
"Do you remember when we met?"
For a second Wilson thought he was just being—well, House. Then the realization hit.
"But do I get a present? No, not only don't I get a present, you give someone else one. You are so inconsiderate. No wonder Julie threw you out."
